Choca Loca Designs originated in 1995 from a nickname given to me by a good friend of mine. She called me Choca (short for chocolate, after my dark brown skin) and Loca (Spanish for crazy-I have my moments). One thing I am truly crazy about is paper-any kind of paper or fabric in an unlimited myriad of textures and designs.
Although I earned my degree in marketing and business from the University of North Texas, my passion has always been for the arts and design. My family and friends encouraged me to market my designs after receiving my Christmas cards one year. At the time, I was working as a buyer for Neiman Marcus. As the gift-wrap and packaging buyer, I was exposed to the very finest papers and materials. My love for all things paper was born. Also, my training under Mr. Stanley's exquisite standards gave me the two most valuable assets I still possess today; that of delivering stellar customer service and insisting on using only the finest quality materials and craftsmanship for my work. Once I decided to venture out and start my own business, I began an apprenticeship at Two Women Boxing; a fine design bookbinding company I credit to this day for allowing me to hone my skills and craftsmanship to the level I continue to insist on when creating my own books and stationery products today.
I've been creating my hand-made designs ever since, and it remains my true passion.
